With the explosion of social media, there is always another new company showing off their unique products as artificial intelligence smartly determines exactly what product and brand to serve you up next. I don’t know about you, but when I’m shopping I like to picture who the face is behind the brand. What is their story? What makes their product different from the others? Essentially who am I buying from?

1. Who we are: Jess and Nathan’s story

We are Jess and Nathan, a husband and wife pair of dentists from Brandon, Manitoba with a passion for helping others, staying active, and getting the most out of life! We met in physics class at the University of Manitoba in 2012 and went on to both complete our degrees in Dentistry in 2017 and 2018. In June 2022 we got married and we currently live in Brandon Manitoba with our daughter and our dog! We are both big dreamers and have a tough time sitting still, so this is really how one dinner conversation about the frustrations we had with our scrubs led to us starting our company! 

2. Struggles with Traditional Scrubs During the Pandemic

When the world changed in 2020, so did our outfits at work - we quickly moved out of our stylish dress clothes and into plain and stiff scrubs. We would wear our comfortable leggings and athleisure clothing on the commute to work and change into these stiff scrubs. “Aren’t scrubs supposed to be more comfortable than pajamas?” I thought to myself in the midst of our pajama wearing pandemic days. Well these were the opposite of comforting and the boxy scrubs we were wearing weren’t antimicrobial, so we had to purchase special detergents to get our scrubs up to the standard. Overall, we were not impressed with our new workwear.

3. Inspiration Behind Creating Pitt & Grûv

After wearing those boxy scrubs for a week, I knew there had to be something better out there, so we ordered scrubs from other brands. Yet, still there was one major thing missing in these scrubs, and it was stretch! These other brands had cool jogger scrub pants, but they had no give in the knees and glutes meaning the scrubs were gapping at the backside but riding up at my ankles every time I sat down. Why can't scrubs move with us like activewear, and have trendy cuts and styles? These scrubs that were supposed to make me feel professional, just made me distracted and uncomfortable. I also found that their sizing wasn’t consistent after ordering two same size pants in different colours that fit completely differently. 

At dinner that week, we were discussing how the scrubs we ordered didn’t hold much value for the price we paid and that we would have designed them much differently! It was then that we decided to make it our mission to design scrubs that would unite fashion, function and quality. As professionals who wear scrubs every day we are passionate about how our scrubs can enhance how you feel and work everyday. Our goal is to help out our fellow Canadian health care professionals feel confident and comfortable each day.
